Interoperability Challenges and Opportunities
Interoperability remains a major talking point in the Acute Care EHR Market. Many hospitals still operate on isolated EHR systems that cannot easily share information with other healthcare providers. This limits continuity of care, especially when patients move between facilities. The push toward standardized data formats, such as FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources), is addressing these barriers. Government regulations and industry collaborations are accelerating progress. The benefits of interoperability include reduced duplication of tests, faster diagnosis, and better population health management. However, achieving seamless data exchange requires overcoming technical, legal, and organizational hurdles. As interoperability improves, it will unlock new opportunities for data-driven care models and enhance the overall effectiveness of acute care EHR systems.
